This is simply a notice that I would like all writers to read. Just some simple stuff that I want people to know since I am Moderator of this board. So yeah let's begin!
(None of these are in any particular order. At all.)
1. As known, I am the Moderator of this board. Therefore, I will try to take it upon myself to become more involved in everyone's works. I will try to regularly comment on people's threads, giving some advice and suggestions. I will do this to everyone's unless you ask me not too. You can also say in your thread if you'd prefer my comments to PMed to you instead of posted on the thread, whichever you prefer.
2. To me, a good editor or a good opinion about a particular work makes all the difference. Therefore, I encourage everyone to comment, give writers the support and encouragement as they need it. No flaming, AT ALL. This thread is meant to be a help to fellow writers, not make them feel bad about what they have written. I expect everyone will be polite and patient. No one is forcing you to comment, so don't feel like you have to. But believe me, it helps the story and writer a lot.
3. Now that we got that out of the way, let's move on to some trivial things. You can post a set of rules for your own thread, but none that contradict with these rules here. You can say there if you do/do not want commenting and that's fine. But it isn't necessary.
4. I must say, though, there are some basic things I expect from you, writers. I would like to know the background of all of your stories. This thread is for fanfics (which I will soon change to a general writing board) and therefore is based upon something else. If there is an online link to this origin topic, I would encourage you to post that, just so your readers can get a better sense of where you're coming from. A Wikipedia page is fine. In my case, my fanfic is based on a manga. So, soon, I will post the Wiki page and where you can read the manga free online. I think you should all have the same type of clarifications.
5. Grammar, grammar, grammar. One of the most important aspect of all stories. Good grammar allows the readers to actually understand and enjoy the text better. Now I know, that you will misspell words every now and then, and you may not catch grammatical errors at first, but that's what I, and your peers, are for. I will point these things out from time to time, but I expect that you will all be very vigilant about your writing. I understand that sometimes you will be writing in a rush and you may pass over misspelled words. But in that case, you simply have to note that you acknowledge these mistakes and will fix them later. This is important in the writing stage, editing and proof-reading. Do not be afraid to read over older works and previous posts to make sure everything makes sense. It will simply make your writing all the better.
6. Make sure your readers are engaged in the story. Posting one or two sentences at a time is not going to cut it. You never know, you could get a lot more fans than first expected. It wouldn't seem fair to keep them in the dark of the story by posting so little. Which brings me on to my next point, posting. I know that we all have personal lives and priorities, but try to make your writing a priority. Make posting a regular thing for you, keep readers thoroughly updated. It's the least you could do for your fans! ^^
7. I know, I know, mature topics are "fun" to write and insanely interesting. It creates dramatic sequences and keeps the readers' eyes popping. But that does not mean you have to go overboard. Take your time with all the swearing and romance and what not that is required, don't clutter it all in as it will make the work feel, well, overworked. And remember, you don't know the ages of everyone here. Be courteous and explain how mature is your story before you post. I am very thankful that we can be very free to do as we wish on this site and can post content we could not on pokefarm, but Kolink had a point in making those "annoying" rules. Just try to be aware of others before you create steamy situations and whatnot. That's all I ask.
8. At this point, I could continue on about being positive and trying your best, but I think these are givens. The only other important thing I can think of is HAVE FUN!!!!!! This thread is supposed to help writers, make writers feel proud about their work(s), and provide interesting stories from budding authors. Post a lot and make me proud, all you writers! Keep that in mind and have a great time! Write your heart out!
As I think of more important points, I will post them as soon as possible. Keep an eye out on this thread for updates!
Any questions? PM me!
